Wastewater Collection Technician (I, II, or III)
The City of Elkins is seeking two (2) dedicated and dependable individuals to join the Wastewater Department as a Wastewater Collection Technician I, II, or III. Placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, certifications, and demonstrated knowledge and skills.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Wastewater Collection Supervisor, these positions perform skilled and semi-skilled work involving the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of the City's wastewater collection system and associated equipment. Work also involves responding to emergencies, required to work weekends/holidays, and perform 24 hour “on call” emergency service. Reports to the Wastewater Collection Supervisor.
The mission of the City of Elkins Wastewater Department is to protect the health and well-being of customers and the local environment, especially the Tygart Valley River, by treating wastewater to a high standard of cleanliness before releasing it to the river.
Job Duties:
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair wastewater collection system infrastructure
- Respond to work orders in a timely and efficient manner
- Troubleshoot and repair sewer mains, storm drains, and related collection system components
- Lay pipe for storm and sanitary sewers, drains, and sewer mains
- Grade trenches and culverts, position pipe, and seal joints
- Perform preventative maintenance on wastewater collection equipment and facilities
- Complete general facility and grounds maintenance as needed
- Safely operate equipment, tools, and vehicles required for assigned duties
- Respond to emergency service calls and assist with emergency repairs
- Maintain accurate records and complete assigned documentation
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Training and Experience:
Candidates will be considered for placement as a Wastewater Collection Technician I, II, or III based on their education, experience, certifications, and overall qualifications.
Education & Experience (All Levels)
- High school diploma or GED required
- Experience in wastewater collection system operations is preferred
- Coursework or training in industrial technology, mechanical or civil engineering technology, or a related field is desirable
- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered
Licenses & Certifications
Technician I
- Valid driver's license required
- Must obtain any additional certifications required by the City
Technician II
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at minimum OR a valid Collection System 1C Operator Certification required
- Must obtain any additional certifications required by the City
Technician III
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at minimum AND a valid Collection System 1C Operator Certification required
- Must obtain any additional certifications required by the City
Physical Requirements: Applicant must be physically capable of performing strenuous manual labor, work in adverse weather conditions, lift 55# – 80# bags, bend, stoop, squat, climb ladders and stairs, and capable of working in confined spaces.
